This is a picture of hurricane Katrina on a weather map
Hurricane Katrina is a well-known hurricane that occurred on August 28, 2005. It went into the Gulf of Mexico after it formed over the Southeastern Bahamas. Katrina brought warm weather, which is unusual because a hurricane forms in a low pressure system. Low pressure systems usually bring cold air and bad weather. Katrina then intensified and turned into a category 5 hurricane, but when it hit land it decreased to a category 3 hurricane which is still very dangerous. Katrina had steady winds of 125 miles per hour. As it passed the Louisiana/Mississippi boarder its wind speed decreased to 120 miles per hour. An estimate of $81,000,000 dollars was spent to repair the city of New Orleans. A minimum of 1,836 people died due to floods and the hurricane itself. There are still some people missing, that got lost or swept away in the hurricane. The government had poor emergency protocol preparedness. New Orleans now has 500 more restaurants and 10,000 fewer of a population. In conclusion, hurricanes really do happen . They are not fake natural disasters such as SHARKNADO. If the meteorologists are talking about hurricanes on the news, pay attention and don't just think, "a hurricane will never hit the place I Iive" because you never know.
